AllttA

20syl and Mr. J. Medeiros reinvent themselves in an unclassifiable French-Californian duo. The organic textures and electronic rhythms of the Nantes beat maker meet the surgical flow and poetry of the Los Angeles rapper. On their eponymous album, AllttA explore styles, navigate between digital boombap and future beat, experiment while asserting a singular musical identity.

They met in 2004 during Mr. J's European tour with his group The Procussions while 20syl recorded 73 keys, the first Hocus Pocus album. The collaboration was spontaneous and the title “Hip Hop?” that they record and clip will mark the history of the collectives. Distance and time do not fade the complicity and the two artists will continue to make appearances on their respective projects.

Mr. J. Medeiros is as productive solo as within his collectives, after three albums with The Procussions, he released his first solo project “Of gods and girls” on the legendary Rawkus Records and forged his identity on the richness of his texts. Ever more unclassifiable, he recently joined the group PunkRap Knives. Whether rapping, singing or shouting, Mr. J. Medeiros' songs are always imbued with introspection and wit.

Since the beginning of the nineties, 20syl has been developing a unique universe by bringing together acoustic textures and machines. He produced and wrote the 5 albums of the group Hocus Pocus, including the highly acclaimed Place 54, crowned with a gold disc. At the same time, he distinguished himself within the C2C collective with which he won 5 turntablism world champion titles, 4 music victories and a double platinum disc with the album Tetra. On the sidelines of these public recognitions, 20syl continued his career as a producer and, after a series of highly noticed remixes, released his EPs “Motifs I & II” in 2014 and 2015. Co-founder of the label On And On Records, 20syl has seduced with a sharp identity far from trends, making him an essential figure in the contemporary music scene. 20syl and Mr. J. are today bringing to fruition what they have been planning since their meeting: by combining their respective know-how, they invent the sound of AllttA, building a common identity to deliver a unique album.
